That’s all we have on Dirk’s Bro. He controlled a media empire, made some movies, owned a museum, manufactured some shitty JPEG artifacts, and fought the Batterwitch. We don’t know what his childhood was like, who his parents were, or even what his real name is. Most people refer to him as Dirk’s Bro, Alpha Bro, or Alpha Dave, using the term Alpha because he came from the world where the Alpha version of Sburb was played (and it’s easier than typing post-scratch). What we can extrapolate from canon is that he grew up on a version of Earth that was much like our own up until 11/11/11 when the Batterwitch (an Alien empress from another planet) began to take over. He was living in an apartment in Houston, Texas before he died and spent a lot of time in Hollywood. He would have been able to afford a mansion if he wanted one, but there's no evidence he ever spent his money on anything that extravagant.

For the most part I like to imagine that he lived in a manner similar to the way the original Dave did except for where there are known discrepancies. In canon he is only referred to by his title, so I like to think he has the same name he did in his pre-scratch life and the title is a means of differentiating between him and other Daves. There are multiple versions of Dave Strider in Homestuck, but only one Dave is Dirk’s Bro. He probably grew up in that apartment in Houston with an older brother looking after him, though it could not have been the same Bro who raised the original Dave. He would have never met Dave’s friends John and Jade either, because in this version of earth they were born into another generation and died long before he could meet them. While I’m sure he had plenty of other friends, they wouldn’t have influenced him the way those two did.

Both Daves were taught to fight at an early age and had a love of the media. They also had other hobbies like rapping, mixing music, photography, and social networking. Dirk’s Bro would not only use the latter in the same way Dave did, but he would exploit social networking and blogs as an adult as well, to use them as a means of furthering his own career as well as increasing his fame. Considering his success, I think it only appropriate that he took formal classes in Cinematography at some point. He is also shown to have visited Hollywood, which is where he got his start in the film business and where he spent most of his time away from home.

Though he probably never played the game Sburb, he retained some of the abilities the original Dave earned while playing it. This is consistent with other post-scratch guardians who retain abilities from their previous lives, including Roxy’s Mom and the Signless, who retain their Seer powers. Dirk said his bro belongs to “an order of martial nobility” which is a vague reference to Dave’s original status as a Knight of Time. I'm assuming he retained his ability to manipulate time, though I'm not certain he retained the ability to fly or the near immortality granted by making god tier. There's no indication he has either and the other post-scratch guardians don’t retain those abilities. We never see him fly without his flying skateboard, and since his death was heroic it would have fulfilled the conditions to kill him even if he were near immortal.

The main difference between the Earth Alpha Dave lives on and our Earth is the Batterwitch. She is assumed to have been on the planet for several decades, quietly plotting her rise to power. For most of his life she worked behind the scenes, sending subliminal messages through her products (she owns and operates Crocker Corp). On 11/11/11 (or 2x3 prong day) she revealed her presence and began going on the offensive. Her rise to power was accomplished with the aid of celebrities like Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope from the Insane Clown Posse, who were the last elected presidents in 2024 and called the “Mirthful Executives”. They started the Hilarocaust, sending people to death camps if they were not sufficiently mirthful. Another prominent figure was Guy Fieri, who was a member of the Supreme Court and the head of the death camps.

Dirk’s Bro and Roxy’s Mom both fought back against the Batterwitch through subliminal imagery and vague insinuations in their various works (primarily bro’s movies and mom’s books). They were said to be in cahoots in order to take her down, so they probably kept in touch to plot against her. They were both shown to be aware of the eventually arrival of their future descendants (Roxy and Dirk), which Roxy’s Mom discovered through her abilities as a seer. She relayed the information to Dirk’S Bro so he could prepare for his descendant’s arrival. He did so by leaving a bunch of food and other supplies in his apartment, knowing that his descendant would eventually show up. This is evidence that they had knowledge of the distant future, but they likely had knowledge of the imminent future as well, which allowed them to stay alive in spite of the Batterwitch's attempts to get rid of them.

When the Hilarocaust came to a head Dirk’s Bro and Roxy’s Mom attacked. Roxy’s Mom took down Guy Fieri and Dirk’s Bro killed both of the Mirthful Executives. Though no one saw them after that is it rumored that they joined together to face the Batterwitch herself. Canon shows the battle ending with Roxy’s Mom stabbed in the side with the Batterwitch’s trident and Dirk’s Bro stabbed through the chest with his own broken sword. We don’t know how much time passed between his birth and death, but it looks as though he and Rose both arrived on Earth in the early 1980s. Given that the Mirthful Executives served multiple terms as dual presidents after 2024, he would have had to be in his 50s or 60s before he died. I like to take him from canon a few years after the Batterwitch revealed herself, around the present day, so he's in his mid-30s.

[Personality]:
While all Striders exude an air of indifference and invulnerability as a part of their “cool dude” persona, Alpha Dave takes this to an extreme. He’s had decades more than his younger counterpart to develop this part of his personality and it shows. While it is possible to get a rise out of the original Dave at times it will be far more difficult to get an emotional reaction of any sort out of Alpha Dave. On the other hand, his standoffish behavior isn’t as intense as that of the original Bro because of his tendency to act like he doesn’t give a fuck. While Dirk and Beta Bro put a lot of effort into maintaining consistency and quality Dave and Alpha Bro put on a careless air and make things that are intentionally shitty. Sometimes it leaves you wondering whether they’re ironically poking fun at something or just being complete douchebags.

Fame and fortune have taken their toll on Alpha Dave and at times he can be cocky. Even Beta Dave is cocky to some extent and seemingly convinced of his own superiority. While we can see his moments of doubt and his struggle to maintain his cool kid façade, it is even more rare to see Alpha Dave lose his cool. He is older, more confident, and he probably has millions of admiring fans to stroke his ego. This would not only reduce any doubts he may have had about himself, but allow him to hide them more effectively beneath his vain exterior. While a portion of his conceitedness is an act, he is internally certain of himself and he isn’t afraid to make it known. He’s the kind of guy who doesn’t even have to say how awesome he is. He just carries himself like he’s hottest shit on the planet.

Some of the things Alpha Dave says and does will be offensive. This is usually intentional and done for ironic purposes. Basically, both Daves act like douches in order to mock people who are serious about rap culture. This is true for Beta Dave, but even more so for Alpha Dave who would use his celebrity status to make a statement. It’s also entirely likely that he would behave in an even more rash and offensive manner simply to attract attention and enhance his own reputation. Conversations with him might include cursing, rapping, sexually explicit content, and sexist and homophobic language. He also made a series of movies that contain all of the above as well as drug references, ironic racism, references to incest/mother fucking (literally) and overall shittiness (both literally and figuratively. There is poop). There is also a lot of subtle homoerotic imagery both in the movies and his casual speech.

The important thing to remember is that most of this offensive behavior isn’t a reflection of his true self. He doesn’t actually think rapping and doing drugs make you cool, or that there’s anything wrong with being gay, a POC, or a woman. He’ll treat most people well as long as they do the same for him. Though, if someone acts cocky around him he may try to bring them down a peg or two. This is true regardless of gender/race/sexuality. He also gets defensive easily if his own competence is called into question, although it isn’t obvious. Where the original Dave would become outwardly offended Alpha Dave would try to find some subtle way to turn the tables on the person who offended him. The bottom line is that while he isn’t always kind, he is egalitarian in his personal relationships because he doesn’t assume things about people based on stereotypes. He reacts to people based on how they treat him.

Underneath the irony, he values the people close to him. He doesn’t have many friends to begin with since the two friends he originally had were born in another time post-scratch. There is just his sister, Roxy’s Mom, who he fought and died with. I’m assuming that he had many casual friendships, but no close ones. He is the sort of person who wants to protect people, and since he took a stance against the Condesce allowing other people to get involved would have only gotten them hurt, possibly killed. The original Dave had a tendency to isolate himself sometimes, and while Alpha Dave would not have experienced complete isolation due to his fame it would have been easy enough to keep people at arm’s length. Since he doesn’t have many close friends the ones he does have are all the more important.

It’s also worth noting that he did his best to prepare a place for his descendant to live even though he knew the boy would not arrive until hundreds of years into the future and he could not possibly be there to help raise him. That he cares about people is an important point because Alpha Dave can come off as a complete assholes sometimes. He is aloof, self-centered, and sarcastic. Very difficult to get to know and even harder to get close to. At times he demonstrates his feelings in a manner that is not only counter-productive, but borderline antagonistic. He withdraws from others when he’s uncomfortable, hassles them when they’re being difficult, and only rarely shows any sign of genuine affection. Even then, he only does so when he is absolutely certain it’s reciprocated.

Last of all, Alpha Dave is a man of action. He fights against oppression, makes political statements when necessary, and ultimately he confronted the greatest threat his world had ever faced. He probably knew well before he went to fight the Condesce that she would be too powerful for him, but he did it anyway. This is a man who stands for his beliefs even when the whole world is against him and it seems like all is lost. In some ways, he is in stark contrast to Beta Dave, who is hesitant, indecisive, and often shrinks from confrontations, but they’re the same person, just at different stages. Alpha Dave has mastered his fears for the most part, while Beta Dave has not. Alpha Dave is a hero. He lived and died one. Someday Dave will be a hero too.

[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]: Alpha Dave is pretty handy with a sword. I’m assuming that he was trained in martial arts from a young age, just like post-scratch Dave was, and he has some combat skills. The Mirthful Executives posed no challenge for him.

[Limited Powers]: I think it would be appropriate to nerf his time traveling ability, since he could use it to travel wherever he wanted without it seeing like any time has passed at all. To give an example of how this power works, there was one time in canon where Beta Dave went forward in time, made a bunch of money manipulating a stock exchange, and then sent it all back to the beginning of his world. If Alpha Dave had his time travel powers he could conceivably travel forward in time, gather all the pieces of the Piedra Roja (if he couldn’t defeat whoever else had them he could just go back in time before they were found and find them first himself) and bring them all back to the moment he first arrived in Isla Empieza so he would have the full power of the jewel immediately at his fingertips.

That is some serious game breaking power. He doesn’t need it.

[Other Important Facts]: I did a canon review and found some new information about Alpha Dave. Originally I assumed he was 35 when he died, but he was actually over 50. I decided to keep him at the same age, so he'll have no memories of his death.
